Change GitHub Project Name?

I started a GH project named ‘MarkdownHelper’ and later released it to rugygems.org. Following the convention, I named the gem ‘markdown_helper’, which means that the project name and gem name are different. (This is offensive.)

I can fix this by renaming the project to ‘markdown_helper’, then creating a replacement project ‘MarkdownHelper’ that shows a ‘project has moved’ message with a link.

Is there a better way?

I have never tried renaming a repo
But according to GitHub help article the redirect seems provided already when renamed
